Hawk Watch

o.k. I know it says hawk watch but they also had other organizations there such as this Raccoon and the herpetology rescue (snakesan turtles and such) educating on thing like not releasing non-native species into the wild and what it take to own a snake and the amount of money for set up and up keep of Course Cody was convinced that he should own a corn snake. but mean old mom said no way even if it was with the money grandma Torrey sent.

They had some buffalo

They went out that morning and caught two hawks and did a demonstration on how they band them for tracking. On some of the eagles they put computers with radio trackers and now they are putting GPS on some of them and they can show where they go. In one year one eagle went from here in sand Diego down into Mexico 3 times then up through nevada and ove r the pacific northwest all the way up into Alaska. it was really cool.

We have been studing birds so this was a really cool event the do it every Sat. in Jan and Feb about 45 min from here it was really windy so we didn;t actuall see to many hawks and we were not able to even see one eagle but we will probably try anothe week soon

We had binoculars and the preserve had some really cool spotting scopes. we were able to see a burrowing owl, a pergon falcon and another hawk that is the smallest hawk but I can't think of the name right now. and lots of Turkey vultures.

That looks pretty awesome. I bet it would be fun to do that again and see them more in action. That is right up the kids' alley. What a mom you are
